"My Son completed a course with Jennie and it helped him immensely. He was extremely nervous on first meeting Jennie but after his first session he was completely comfortable. For Jack to learn to play in an environment in which he was comfortable and to be able to express himself for us was a huge help. Jack's confidence grew every single session. He looked forward to seeing Jennie every single week and enjoyed the use of play with imagination and creativity. Jack still talks about Jennie to this day and his time in Play Therapy. Play Therapy and mostly Jennie made my Son a very happy little boy."

Sinead, Dublin 5 (Jack, 8 years old)

Child Psychotherapy

A child psychotherapist is a mental health professional that uses developmentally appropriate approaches to enable a young person to communicate their inner world. This intervention is used to treat severe acute and chronic mental health issues such as developmental and complex trauma, neglect, sexual abuse and attachment issues.

Unlike adults, children tend not to ‘talk out’ their problems. For the most part their reactions to challenging experiences and overwhelming feelings are unconscious and they do not have the language or cognitive ability to express what they are feeling.

Through the safety and containment of the therapeutic relationship a child can begin to unfold, explore and repair some of their difficult life experiences.

Play therapy is an effective prevention and early intervention approach for mild to moderate presenting issues and is often shorter term in nature. Play therapy can also be an effective ‘holding’ piece for a child who is on a waiting list for other services and can support in building coping skills and resiliency.

Tele Play Therapy

Play therapy online

What is it?

The World Health Organisation (2020) describes  Telehealth as “involving the use of telecommunications and virtual technology to deliver health care outside of traditional health-care facilities.”

Tele therapy used in play therapy and parent support sessions has allowed therapeutic supports to continue during the recent lockdown restriction as well as being a more flexible option for some families by removing barriers around travel time and geographical location.

Tele therapy allows for a nation wide service.

Filial Therapy

Child Parent relationship therapy

Filial therapy is a unique therapeutic model that involves parents and caregivers directly by providing them with skills that allows them to be the agents of therapeutic change for their child.

Some of the aims of this evidenced – based intervention are to strengthen parent – child relationships and attachments, improve the families coping skills and psycho-social adjustments as well as allow children to become more aware of their feelings and allow them to  build greater trust and confidence in their parents.
